Give DeKalb County 2025

Updated: 4 days ago

Mark your calendars! Our most important fundraiser of the year is fast approaching on Thursday, May 1. Give DeKalb County is an annual giving day hosted by the DeKalb County Community Foundation and provides hundreds of nonprofits with an opportunity to boost their donations. TDS has participated annually since 2017 and raised more than $150,000 that has been used to fund numerous programs and projects over the years.

In addition to supporting current programs like the early childhood reading programs at the LCRC, school gardens at 8 schools, and provide scholarships to girls to attend secondary school, your donations will help the launch of a new LCRC program. Starting in May, our partners will be introducing a Community Reading Circles program. For the past several weeks, LCRC Director, Joyce Masso, and LCRC Librarian, Moses Deogratius have been meeting with community leaders to discuss strategies for getting the books on the LCRC's shelves out into the hands of community members. This effort has resulted in a number of community members in villages surrounding the LCRC to step up as volunteers.

These eager volunteers will be hosting regular community reading circles that bring children and their families together to share stories and books. The program has a modest budget to cover the cost of fuel to bring books to these volunteers on a weekly basis, but has great potential to build community and a love for reading. We are excited to see how this community-led initiative provides communities with an opportunity to take advantage of the LCRC's resources and brings together villages to share stories. Help us support this excellent opportunity by donating to TDS during Give DeKalb County 2025.
